Environmental Youth Speak

28th Jan 2026

Pupils Take Part in Environmental Youth Speak Competition – “Where Would We Bee Without Pollinators?”

Our  pupils have been busy preparing for this year’s Environmental Youth Speak Competition, organised by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. The theme for 2026 is a vital one: “Where Would We Bee Without Pollinators?”

Over the past week, the children have researched the importance of bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects, exploring how these tiny creatures play a huge role in our food systems, biodiversity and the health of our environment.

Each pupil wrote and presented their own speech to the class, demonstrating impressive confidence, creativity and environmental awareness. Their speeches highlighted:

Why pollinators are essential for growing many of the foods we enjoy
The threats pollinators currently face
How we can all help protect them through small, everyday actions
The importance of caring for the natural world around us

We will now face the very difficult task of selecting one overall winner to represent our school at the next stage of the competition. With such high-quality speeches and passionate delivery from all pupils, choosing a finalist will not be easy!

We are incredibly proud of our children for their hard work, thoughtful ideas and commitment to environmental awareness.

Well done, — you are true champions for planet Earth!
